The 2017/18 Premier League season is just short of the halfway mark following the weekend’s results, which saw Manchester City continue their dominance, while Liverpool bounced back to winning form.
City claimed a record-extending 16th consecutive win as they crushed Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 on Saturday evening, with Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin De Bruyne and a late brace from Raheem Sterling accounting for the goals.
Pep Guardiola’s team look completely unbeatable, with the rest of the Premier League praying that some chink in their armour appears over the busy festive season – but they’re likely to be left disappointed.
Elsewhere, Crystal Palace put in a stunning performance to defeat an in-form Leicester City 3-0 at the King Power Stadium, Huddersfield Town stunned Watford 4-1 away, and there were narrow wins for London giants Arsenal and Chelsea at home to Newcastle United and Southampton respectively.
West Ham United’s revival under David Moyes gained further momentum with a 3-0 victory away to Stoke City, which could well spell the end of Mark Hughes’ tenure in charge of the Potters.
Sunday’s two games saw a laboured performance from Manchester United to defeat West Bromwich Albion 2-1 at the Hawthorns, while Liverpool produced a much more energetic display in thrashing Bournemouth 4-0 on the South Coast, with Mohamed Salah netting his 20th goal of the season already.
The round will be wrapped up by a clash between Everton and Swansea at Goodsion Park on Monday night. The next round of matches will be played on 22-23 December.
