Leicester City will look to become the first team to take points off Liverpool in the 2018/19 Premier League season when the teams meet at King Power Stadium on Saturday, September 1, kick-off at 13h30 CAT.
Leicester comes into the game in good form as far as the league is concerned, having claimed back-to-back wins over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton. The latter victory, secured at St. Mary’s by goals from Demarai Gray and Harry Maguire last weekend, was particularly sweet for Foxes manager Claude Puel, as it came against his former employers.
City is seventh on the log with six points and looking to rise even higher – particularly with eminently winnable Premier League matches against Bournemouth, Huddersfield Town and Newcastle United in the rest of September.
Liverpool, meanwhile, is top of the standings with nine points from a possible nine. Their impressive wins over West Ham United and Crystal Palace were followed by a narrow triumph at home to Brighton & Hove Albion this past weekend.
The performance against the Seagulls may not have been the most impressive from the Reds, but it was the kind of game that Jurgen Klopp’s team have struggled with in the past. That they can underwhelm and yet still come away with all three points underlined why they are regarded as Manchester City’s main rivals for the title.
This clash is set to have a decidedly African feel to it, with Leicester likely to field Nigerians Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho (Ghanaian Daniel Amartey and Algerian Rachid Ghezzal will also be in Puel’s thinking), while ‘Pool boasts the brilliant trio of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita.
