The Seychelles will be hoping to cause a major upset when they travel to Johannesburg to take on South Africa in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, Group E match at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The match is scheduled to get underway at 15h00 (CAT).
The Seychelles are yet to register a point in the Afcon qualifying campaign with two losses from as many matches as they occupy the bottom of Group E.
Moreover, the Seychelles’ defence has been appalling, having shipped eight goals after a 5-1 loss to Libya in June last year in their opening Afcon qualifier, followed by a 3-0 drubbing from Nigeria last month on September 8th.
South Africa, on the other hand, are joint leaders in Group E on four points alongside Libya who are up against Nigeria in round three of the qualifiers.
South Africa opened up their qualifying campaign with an impressive 2-0 victory over Nigeria away from home last year June and then played to a rather disappointing goalless draw against Libya last month on September 8th.
Bafana will really fancy their chances against the Seychelles who are 66 places lower than them in the official FIFA World rankings and especially in front of their home crowd.
South Africa has also been in fine form on the international stage with two wins (3-0 over Botswana and 4-1 over Namibia) prior to the 0-0 draw with Libya.
That is certainly not the case for the Seychelles who have not registered a victory in their last 17 outings, of which they have lost 13 times. The last time the Seychelles registered an international victory was back in March 2016 when they beat Lesotho 2-0. In fact, the Seychelles have only registered one win in their last 29 international matches.
