Arsenal will be aiming to build on their improved run of form in the 2020-21 English Premier League season with victory away to Southampton on Tuesday.
The Saints head into the fixture on the back of a 2-0 loss away to Leicester City. The result ended a three-game unbeaten run in the league for the Ralph Hasenhuettl’s men who enter the week in 10th place, two points above Arsenal.
The Gunners have climbed away from the relegation zone on the back of a five-game unbeaten run during which period they won four matches, including a 3-0 victory over Newcastle United last time out.
“We always say that winning is the best thing for any collective team or any individual as well. But for us to get in the momentum that we are with the clean sheets – that was our fifth one in a row – we have managed to do that, the fact that we are scoring goals and everything is more fluent,” said Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.
“The energy, the cohesion around the team and the spirit is better. So I’m glad, but we have to maintain that run and keep going. There are still a lot of things that we have to do better and improve but overall, I’m really pleased with how we’re playing at the moment.”
The two teams played to a 1-1 draw at Emirates Stadium earlier this season with Theo Walcott and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on target for either side. Arsenal claimed a 2-0 win over Southampton in the corresponding fixture last season thanks to goals from Eddie Nketiah and Joe Willock. Southampton beat Arsenal 1-0 in a FA Cup fixture this past weekend.
