Bayern Munich enter the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal against Sevilla as the clear favourites to progress. The teams will meet at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Wednesday, 11 April 2018, kick-off at 20h45 CAT.
The teams’ first meet at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium last week saw the German giants pick up a 2-1 win: the hosts led through Pablo Sarabia, but a Jesus Navas own goal and a strike from Thiago Alcantara midway through the second half took the away side to victory.
It was a seventh successive win in the competition for Bayern, who will fancy their chances of making it eight in a row and advancing into the final four. Yet the run of form is even greater for manager Jupp Heynckes, with the Bavarians’ caretaker boss chasing his 13th straight win in the Champions League (which included taking them to the trophy in his last spell in charge in 2012/13).
For Sevilla and manager Vincenzo Montella, they will maintain belief that they can produce another stirring away win to eliminate a heavyweight: they beat Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford in the previous round to do just that. Yet this Bayern side will not be nearly as passive as the Red Devils were, making the odds of a Spanish victory pretty long.
Bayern will be able to turn all their energy toward the Champions League after clinching a sixth successive Bundesliga title this past weekend with a 4-1 win away to Augsburg, while Sevilla suffered a 4-0 loss away to Celta Vigo in a La Liga clash.
