Burnley face a crunch Premier League match when they host Leicester City at Turf Moor on Saturday, 16 March 2019, kick-off at 17h00 CAT.
Burnley come into the clash on the back of three straight league defeats. They first succumbed 2-0 away to Newcastle United in late February, followed that up with a 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace, and then went down 4-2 away to title-chasing Liverpool this past weekend.
The Clarets scored early and late at Anfield through Ashley Westwood and Johann Gudmundsson, but the four goals conceded will be a major concern for manager Sean Dyche, as will the fact that they have slipped to just one place (and two points) above the relegation zone.
They desperately need a positive result in this match even though the team just below them, Cardiff City, are not in action this weekend (the Welsh side were set to face Brighton & Hove Albion, who are instead playing in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup).
Leicester, meanwhile, enjoyed their first win under new manager Brendan Rodgers last weekend, as they overcame Fulham 3-1 thanks to a brace from striker Jamie Vardy.
The Foxes realistically need only one more win from their remaining eight games to feel that they are safe from the prospect of relegation, and Rodgers will hope for a far better away performance compared to his debut, which was a disappointing 2-1 loss at Watford earlier in the month.
Leicester have a relatively good run of fixtures over the coming weeks and their new manager will be looking to build some good will, especially ahead of their last three games which are Arsenal at home, Manchester City away and Chelsea at home.
In head-to-head terms, Burnley and Leicester have met in seven previous Premier League matches. The Foxes have claimed three wins compared to two for the Clarets, while two games have been drawn.
The teams’ most recent meeting was a Premier League clash at the King Power Stadium in November 2018 which ended in a goalless stalemate.
