City manager Manuel Pellegrini looking forward to Wednesday’s Champions League against Dynamo Kiev in Ukraine opted to rest most of his big names.
Instead he fielded young midfielders among them Aleix Garcia and Manu Garcia. But even despite fielding an under strength side, City were back into the match ten minutes after Diego Costa had put the Blues ahead when Tosin Adarabioyo scored the equalizer.
After that it looked like City would match their opponents but it was not to be as William,Gary Cahill , Eden Hazard and Bertrand Traore scored to put the match beyond doubt.
After the win, Chelsea will travel to Everton for the quarter-finals as they seek to make up for their poor form in the league.
Away from the results, Pellegrini’s decision to field a weak team will once again raise the question of whether teams should take the FA Cup seriously especially with other more important tournaments on the card.
West Ham were also big winners in the FA Cup after hammering Black Burn Rovers 5-1.
Perhaps the only surprise result was the failure of Arsenal to edge out Hull City after both sides drew 0-0. The Gunners must travel to Hull City for the replay.
Despite the barren draw, Arsenal still looked the better side given the number of chances they created and even had two penalty claimed denied in a match Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck did well.
But Hull will have to thank their goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic for making a string of saves that denied the gunners victory.
