Liverpool will look to keep up their Premier League title push when they host Crystal Palace at Anfield on Saturday, 19 January 2019, kick-off at 17h00 CAT.
Liverpool bounced back from successive defeats (to Manchester City in the league and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup) earlier this month to return to winning form by edging Brighton & Hove Albion 1-0 away last Saturday.
Egyptian star Mohamed Salah celebrated his second straight CAF African Footballer of the Year award by notching the only goal from the penalty spot. It was not the most convincing showing from the Reds, but manager Jurgen Klopp was right to point out that his side is not the ‘Harlem Globetrotters’ and labelled it their most mature performance of the season to date.
Crystal Palace, meanwhile, continued their up-and-down form by losing 2-1 at home to Watford. The London side claimed the lead via a Craig Cathcart own goal, but fell away in the second half and allowed the Hornets to claim all three points at Selhurst Park.
Manager Roy Hodgson remains under pressure, with the Eagles far from comfortable in their current league position. They are 14th and just four points above the red zone.
Most worryingly, their talisman, Ivorian attacker Wilfred Zaha, has not scored in the Premier League since September and his dip in output severely affects their hopes of keeping their heads above water.
In head-to-head stats, Liverpool and Palace have met in 19 Premier League matches. The Reds have claimed 11 wins compared to five for the Eagles, while three games have been drawn.
The teams’ most recent meeting was a Premier League clash at Selhurst Park in August 2018 which Liverpool won 2-0, thanks to goals from James Milner and Sadio Mane. The Reds are on a three-game winning streak in league clashes against the Eagles.
