The Magpies who are battling against relegation were unlucky not to pick all three points at home and City will have goalkeeper Joe Hart to thank for the result especially after he denied Georginio Wijnaldum late in the match.
City will understand that it is difficult to play a side struggling against relegation and had to rely on a controversial goal early in the first half scored by Sergio Aguero.
The Argentine was clearly in an off-side position when he headed home a free kick from Aleksandar Kolarov but he will still be happy with the goal as it took his tally to 23 one less than the Premier League’s current top scorer Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur. Kane scored a double on Monday night when Spurs thrashed Stoke City 4-0.
But Newcastle United was back in the match in the 31st minute when Vurnon Anita levelled the scores.
It was Vurnon’s first goal in two years. The result has left Newcastle a place Sunderland on the log.
Coming into this match, City had a huge dominance on their opponents having won the last 12 matches in 18 outings but this did not matter on Monday night.
Everything seemed to turn out for the worst for the home side when Aguero scored but Newcastle showed a lot of character and commitment in their cost for a come-back.
The Magpies looked motivated after thrashing Swansea 3-0 and will have plenty of belief going into the last fixtures.
