Man City take down Dynamo Kiev

Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Yaya Toure scored for the English side with Vitaliy Buyalski pulling one back for the losers.

It was a superb performance by City who were back to full strength after being humiliated 5-1 by Chelsea in Sunday’s FA Cup match.

The English side dominated in the first half with Aguero and Silva at their best with every ball. It was always a matter of time when they would go ahead.

Before Wednesday’s victory, City had won just once in four matches since it was announced that Pep Guardiola will replace Manuel Pellegrini as coach.

Apart from scoring the first goal, Aguero generally had a great performance on the pitch as his two other efforts went wide and another goal bound shot was carried away by Kiev goalkeeper Oleksandr Shovkovskiy.

Kiev will however be forgiven for the loss. The team had not played competitively since December 9 due to the Ukranian winter break and it showed in their performance as they lacked rhythm and could not match the pace of their opponents.

In the other match of the night, Atletico Madrid and PSV fought to a barren draw in a match that saw both sides throw away numerous open goal scoring chances.

The Spanish side were the most wasteful as they should have been ahead just before the break had Luciano Vietto’s attempt not been cleared by Jeffrey Bruma.

Antoine Griezmann was also denied by the PSV goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet after beating an offside trap.

The Dutch champions also had their chances. Davy Propper came close at the hour mark. PSV were then reduced to 10 men after Gaston Pereiro was sent off in the 68th minute but they managed to hang on to the end even with less men on the pitch.
