2020-21 FA Cup
Third Round Proper (Last 64)
8-11 January 2021
Manchester City will be eager to avoid a potential banana skin when they host Birmingham City in a third round 2020-21 FA Cup tie at Etihad Stadium on Sunday. Kick-off is at 15:30 CAT.
The two teams will cross paths for the first time across all competitions since a 2-0 League Cup win for the Cityzens in 2011. Owen Hargreaves and Mario Balotelli were on target that day.
The Manchester club are six-time champions of England’s most prestigious cup competition, the most recent of which victory’s came in 2019 when they defeated Watford 6-0 at Wembley Stadium. Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling scored two goals apiece as Pep Guardiola’s troops stormed to the joint-biggest win in FA Cup final history.
Birmingham City have only ever reached two FA Cup finals, losing on both occasions. Their most recent final appearance came way back in 1956 against the Cityzens who ran out 3-1 winners.
The Citizens suffered a 2-0 semi-final loss to eventual champions Arsenal last season while the Blues exited the competition last season in the fifth round, following a 1-0 loss away to Leicester City.
This will be the first FA Cup meeting between the two clubs since 2001 when goals from Andy Morrison, Darren Huckerby and Shaun Goater steered the Manchester club to a 3-2 win.
