In the past 6 weeks 6 Premier League stars have all suffered cruciate ligament injuries. The one thing these players all had in common is that they were all wearing Nike boots. But experts claim it’s just an “unhappy coincidence”.
Premier League players out with injury
Bournemouth have lost 3 players to cruciate injury, Callum Wilson, Max Gradel and Tyrone Mings. This was an expensive blow for the club that recently signed Max and Tyrone for $15 million combined. Liverpool has lost two players, Danny Ings and Joe Gomez. And New Castle are without keeper Tim Krul.
Four of the players were wearing the Nike Magista boot and Gradel and Ings were wearing the Mercurial Vapor X. Experts in football injuries and footwear have looked into it and said it is wrong to blame the brand and it is just chance and coincidence.
Ben Dinnery, injury data analyst from premierinjuries.com, explained: ‘Nothing shouts out that this is a problem with footwear and certainly not Nike.
In most cases it has been either a collision with an opponent or the turf. Dinnery went on to say that some managers had launched their own investigations. ‘I know Eddie Howe and Sean Dyche both investigated and they found that the injuries were unavoidable.
