Niger Tornadoes will look to continue their strong form in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) when they host Yobe Stars at Bako Kontagora Stadium on Sunday, 22 April 2018, kick-off at 17h00 CAT.
Tornadoes were held to a 1-1 draw away to Go Round this past weekend, but the result still extended their unbeaten run in the NPFL to seven matches. They have picked up 15 points from the last 21 up for grabs to move into fifth place on the log, six points adrift of leaders Lobi Stars.
Yobe Stars come into the game having claimed a much-needed 1-0 home win over Go Round earlier in the month – their scheduled weekend NPFL match against MFM was postponed due to the latter’s participation in the CAF Confederation Cup playoffs.
Prior to their win over Go Round, Stars had a lean run of three defeats and a draw from four matches, including a heavy 3-0 reverse at the hands of Enugu Rangers in early April. Nonetheless, they are still placed a creditable eighth on the log, with just a point less than their hosts.
In terms of head-to-head stats, this will be the first league meeting of Niger Tornadoes and Yobe Stars, following the latter’s promotion from Nigeria’s second tier at the end of the previous season.
