Wanyama joins Spurs

Spurs confirmed Wanyama’s capture on their website but did not state the fees involved but this is believed to be Sh1.6billion.

Wanyama’s move brings to an end speculation about the future of the Kenyan midfielder who had been linked to various clubs among them Arsenal and Leicester City.

He rejoins former Southampton coach Mauricio Pochettino who signed him from Celtic in 2013 and becomes Spurs first signing.

Wanyama began his professional career in Belgium with Beerschot AC where he made 56 appearances before moving to Celtic in 2011. He had great success at Celtic winning the league and the Scottish Cup in his first season.

That performance drew the interest of Southampton who signed him in 2013 making him the first Kenyan player to feature in the English Premier League (EPL). He helped the Saints to finish in the top ten position during all the three seasons he was at the club with last season’s sixth place being the best performance.

In total, Wanyama played 95 matches for Southampton and scored four goals in all competitions. After he completed his transfer on Thursday.

President Uhuru Kenyatta led Kenyans in congratulating Wanyama for making the move to Tottenham Hotspurs.
